Read what Olga had to say in a recent interview?

  1. What is your favorite part about working at the Desert Spa?

When someone asks me what I do my answer is ‘I do what I love the most!

I Inspire and train everybody to be and do their best.’ Helping people is very rewarding. I enjoy teaching my staff to care so that they take care of all of our guests. Overall, I create a big family amongst my staff and we take care of each other.

2. When did you discover your passion for health and wellness?

In 1998, I had the opportunity to meet Angel Stewart, an award winning Spa Director  in Mexico. She worked with me at at Las Ventanas al Paraiso while I was the Spa Receptionist and was my mentor that guided me to find my own path. Working very closely with her, I learned how to give the best service and how to coordinate extraordinary spa experiences for our guests. As a part of my training, Angel would send me to enjoy a facial on a weekly basis. These facials helped me to get rid of my acne and I fell in love with the results that I was seeing. I wanted to learn how to provide these services myself, which was when I knew that I wanted to be part of a team that could transform a simple moment into a celestial experience. I asked Angel, my mentor, for permission to learn how to perform spa services. She told me ‘If it is something you wish to do, go get your aestheticians license.’ So, I went to México City to study for my aesthetician’s license. When I returned from México City I was trained to give extraordinary and magical experiences with my own hands…but most importantly to share my heart with my guests with every touch I performed.

 3. Briefly describe your work experience and what led you to the Desert Spa.

I graduated in 1990 with a B. A. in Business Administration. I worked in customer service as well as food and beverage departments in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Loreto.

In 1998, I started working as a receptionist at the very exclusive Spa at Las Ventanas Al Paraiso in Los Cabos México. After three months, I was promoted to Receptionist Supervisor and worked in this position for four years. After returning from Mexico City with my Aesthetician Diploma, I continued to work for Las Ventanas Al Paraiso, but this time as an Aesthetician.

In 2007, The Desert Spa was born and Francois Kingsley, its Director, invited me to be part of his team at The Desert Spa as a Spa Coordinator. This position was the Spa Director’s right hand person and I held this position from 2007 to 2014.

Upon Francois leaving his position in 2014, I was promoted to Spa Director at the Desert Spa, where I work today. It has been 18 years since I became part of the Spa Industry and I love it!

4.  What advice can you give to members and guests to maintain a healthy lifestyle?       Make a plan —put this on your agenda or somewhere you will look every day—and be consistent. Schedule time for your workouts, meditation, and doing things that you love.

5. Being so involved in the world of wellness, how do you make time for yourself to ensure that your wellness is maintained?

I schedule myself four times a week for wellness and fitness. I write specific dates and times in my agenda and I stick to these. I participate in Tabata (interval training that utilizes my own body weight), yoga, and swimming. I teach my two boys yoga on the weekends and love sharing this experience with my children as I believe it helps strengthen our relationship. I also take my two children (one boy and one girl) swimming with me every weekend at the beach. I find the ocean very inspiring and this is a great way for us to bond as a family while breathing in the fresh air that surrounds us. Lastly, I make sure to spend time “just being” and “living” so that I can truly appreciate life and the paradise setting that I live in.

“I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and give my gratitude to some very special members of my team: Blanca, Laura and Vicky. Without their dedication and hard work, The Desert Spa would not be the success that it is.” -Olga
