All Gold and VPA members are automatically enrolled in the ResortCom Basics plan provided through Chubb, which provides exclusive access to many benefits and advantages. As a vacation owner and Chubb Travel Protection plan holder, you will have around the clock access to Chubb’s assistance services when you are traveling away from home to one of your affiliated vacation club member resorts, or while on an exchange using your club membership. In this article, we cover what you need to know about Chubb Travel Protection and how you can use it in your next adventures.  

Choose between two insurance plans 

While traveling is amazing, it may have its challenges. You never really know what can happen. Dealing with medical issues or other problems may be even more complicated when abroad. For this reason, it is vital to be protected. After all – accidents do happen.  

As a Gold or VPA member, you are automatically enrolled in the ResortCom Basics plan, which includes up to $50,000 for Emergency Evacuation and $50,000 for Repatriation of Remains. This plan also includes coverage for emergency medical transportation to the nearest adequate facility, transportation after stabilization, and return of dependent children. Another great advantage is that you can make use of 24/7 assistance services so you can always get medical services advice.  

Those travelers who wish to enjoy additional benefits can upgrade to the ResortCom Essentials plan marketed by Kaercher Insurance. On top of the benefits stated above, the ResortCom Essentials plan provides coverage for trip delays, flight accidents, baggage and personal effects, accident, and sickness medical expenses. If your luggage, credit cards, or any other valuables get lost or damaged, this plan reimburses for loss, theft, or damage while traveling. Plus, if your baggage gets delayed, you will receive reimbursement for the purchase of necessary personal effects if this delay exceeds twenty-four hours.

Whenever you need support regarding medical assistance, travel assistance, and even personal assistance, you can call and receive guidance. All Chubb clients have exclusive 24/7 access to assistance for medical monitoring. In addition to this, ResortCom Essentials plan holders receive additional coverages for flight accidents, baggage delays, trip delays, and accident and sickness medical expenses. 

If you are having medical issues, it is vital to contact the local 911 first. However, Chubb Travel Assistance can help with emergency medical transportation arrangements, doctor or hospitable referrals, and other questions. Once you have taken care of any immediate emergency needs, reach out to Chubb Travel Assistance as soon as possible. Note that it is also possible to contact the company to open a case on another member’s behalf. 

What makes Chubb a better choice than ‘traditional’ travel insurance? 

Purchasing insurance every time you decide to travel with your Vacation Ownership or an exchange is not necessary. When you have many responsibilities, it is easy to forget to do it at all, especially if you are a frequent traveler. The ResortCom Basics and Essentials plans are a great option while using your Vacation Ownership or through a Vacation Ownership exchange.  

With the plans, you get coverage on an annual basis instead of purchasing a plan each time you head on your trip. Keep in mind that most of the benefits are available only when traveling 100 miles or more from your primary residence. With Chubb Travel Protection, you can forget about having to purchase coverage each time you travel with your Vacation Ownership or exchange.

How do you get reimbursed? 

In the event your encounter a situation and need to file a claim, you need to contact Chubb directly at +1 844.825.2264 (Inside the US) or +1 585.939.7468 (Outside the US). The company will review the coverages you are eligible for based on your level of coverage and the policy wording. As a part of the process, you must fill out a claim form and include proof or documentation for the loss.  

If you elect to upgrade to the Essentials Plan and wish to use the accident and sickness medical expense and baggage and personal effects coverage, keep in mind these benefits are in excess of your personal insurance. First, you should submit any claims to your primary medical or homeowners’ insurance company. Once you get a copy of your explanation of benefits (EOB), you should submit what is initially covered through your primary insurance and then submit any remaining expenses to Chubb.   

If you need emergency transportation arrangements, all arrangements need to be coordinated and arranged by the Chubb Travel Assistance Center.  

Covid-19 – treated like any other medical condition 

The ResortCom Essentials plan offers coverage for Accident and Sickness Medical Expenses due to Covid-19. However, keep in mind it is only valid with a positive diagnosis from a medical professional. The medical coverage is in excess of the personal medical insurance. 

Who is covered under the insurance? 

The ResortCom Basics plan applies to anyone listed on the Vacation Ownership. If guests in the travel party are not included in the contract, anyone traveling with the members (six travelers in the party, including the members) are eligible for coverage on the ResortCom Essentials plan.   

On the ResortCom Essentials plan, the guests do not have to be on the same reservation and can be in separate rooms. As far as travel dates go, they should be the same for all travelers in the party.
